Wednesday Wisdom: Alice Walker

“I am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is. I have a right to be this way…I can’t apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to… We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful…We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose.”

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Happy reading, y’all.

  1. The Third Life of Grange Copeland was good. It was similar to the Color Purple to me. In Love and Pain was a good read also. Iread these books a decade ago. I guess I’ll have to pull the out. She lost me at the Temple of My Familiar. That was a very bizzare tale. I couldn’t get into it.

    1. You know, it’s funny you ask. I tried to find a quote by JCC for the Wednesday Wisdom and had a tough time. If you wanna email me a good quote from one of her books, I’d love to post it. JCC is one of my sister’s favorite authors too and I’ve read a few of her books because of it.

  2. Naysue, I found this in the dedication page of The Wake Of The Wind. All the slaves who had to live through this American bloody history and other bloody histories of the world. They are the reason “we” are here today. I will never be ashamed of my ancestoes. If you are…..You are a fool. Now that’s some real talk.

  3. I saw this in the author’s note in The novel In Search Of Satisfaction. It reads; We cannot blame anyone for our misery, aloneness and impotence. If we fail, we cannt say, “It is not my fault!” If we never have anything to give that another person mightwant,we canot blame it on our parents, wives, husbands, circumstances or lack of opprtunity, We alone, are to blame. I believe you can survive anything and move on …. with the right tools. Move on to seek, to find what you need …. in search of satisfaction. This resonates with me. It was like an epiphany. Happy Thanksgiving.
